Niki Orfanou is a writer based in London.
Born in Athens, she studied philosophy at the universities of Crete, York (MA) & Edinburgh (MSc, never completed). She did an MPhil in playwriting at the university of Birmingham before completing a PhD on new dramatic writing at Roehampton University, London. She also studied TV writing at the National School of Film and Television (NFTS). Currently, she’s participating in Ella Frears’ poetry masterclass. Her plays have been staged in the UK, Germany, France and Greece and include I Could Sleep in Your Arms (winner of Scriptspace, TFT), Lucas and Time (finalist for the Palmarès des Journées de Lyon des Auteurs de Théâtre), Town with Wooden Shutters (International Performance Festival Athens System). She has been the recipient of residencies (International Festival Cardiff) & scriptwriting commissions (Faliro House Productions). Her children’s book, Le Petit Yvan was a finalist for the Prix des Libraires du Quebec (Canada, 2019). She has also published poetry, fiction & academic essays (well, just one). |
She worked for several years as a journalist & theatre critic for major Greek publications. At present, she teaches writing & works as a developmental editor / dramaturg.
Every now and then, she imagines herself engaging in physical labor, such as sorting books in a library. |
